How does one begin to introduce themselves?
Mrs. Baum
My name is Mrs. Baum, formerly Mrs. Baltic. This is my 13th year teaching, the 8th at Carl Schurz High School. This year I am teaching 10th grade English Lit. and Film Study.
I've had a very busy few years as I've had two of the cutest baby boys ever while teaching both summer school and night school . It has been a whirlwind, let me tell you. Although I feel like I'm being pulled in 100 different directions at all times, I remain dedicated to my profession of teaching.
I love language, especially the English language. Language allows us to express what we feel, what we want, what we need, and what we observe. It allows us to show the degree of our emotions through the vocabulary we choose. I love my mother. I adore my grandmother. I idolize my great-grandmother. These are all positive and strong, but they all show different degrees of "love." THIS is what a practiced writer can do. Clearer, more detailed writing is the goal for all my students this year as well as the better use of grammar, critical thinking skills, and stronger reading skills.
Let's do this!
Ms. Williams
This is my 4th year teaching at Schurz, and my 1st year teaching English II. I love working with students because they're starting to think about the next step after high school, and it's so exciting to help students grow and achieve during this time.
I'm originally from Mobile, Alabama, and I attended undergraduate in New Orleans, LA at Loyola University (they've got one down there, too!). While I miss the beautiful city of New Orleans all the time, I've enjoyed exploring the big city of Chicago. I LOVE to eat, so if you know of a good place, let me know!
I had a baby girl in May 2015 and I love being a mother! I believe having a child of my own has helped me learn to appreciate and help my students in new ways. This year, I look forward to showing students the infinite ways that better reading and better writing can help them achieve any goal they have. Reading critically can show you a world of opportunity and give you the power of information, while writing clearly and effectively can put your ideas and desires into action.
